Yesterday, we released survey results of employees and workplace safety managers that show that most U.S. employees are not prepared for cardiac emergencies at work. Further, workers don’t have access to CPR and first aid training, and half could not locate an AED at work. This is especially unnerving given that about 10,000 cardiac arrests in the workplace each year in the United States, according to a report from the U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration.
A few things we should point out:
Fifty-five percent can’t get first aid or CPR and AED training from their employer.
In the hospitality industry, 66 percent of employees cannot locate an AED.
One-third of safety managers surveyed reported lives were saved at the workplace or home due to workplace first aid, CPR and AED training.
